Software Online: Web 2.0 Comes of Age

Chances are, you've heard a lot about software online in the past decade. The term most people use is "Web 2.0" and most of the buzz has been around social networks like Facebook and user-created content sites like youTube.

But more quietly, another type of Web 2.0 application has matured: online software; software that runs on the Internet requiring only a browser to use.

The Web 2.0 tools available online truly run the gamut of business needs. You'll find software online for accounting, brainstorming, time management, contact and customer management, invoicing, payroll and many, many more online.

These online applications provide great functionality for what they cost. I have put in $100,000.00 systems that did less than some of these tools. Whether you have an existing or new venture, you need to learn about, and take advantage of, what's available online.

The best part? Many online vendors offer free business software at some level or another (I've pointed out which in the "Pricing" sections of the listings). You may not get the whole package, but for a start-up or small business, what you get may just be enough. Where else but the Web can you find an opportunity like that one?
